GEOG 201: Human and Cultural Geography

Overview

This course is an introduction to geographic perspectives that have molded the varied human landscapes of the world. You will be exploring the spatial variations of geographical topics such as population, land use, social activities, and economic activities that form the world’s cultural landscape.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate understanding of the depth, breadth, and value of geography as a discipline.
• Be able to use basic geographic research and analysis tools of including:
• maps, atlases, aerial photographs, remotely sensed images, and globes
• primary data sources such as census materials and surveys
• basic mathematical skills
• Demonstrate an understanding of human spatial distribution, movement, and interaction.
• Analyze patterns of human distribution, movement, and interaction of population, religion, language, popular and folk culture, political systems, economic system, urban and rural settlement systems
• Demonstrate an understanding of human-land relationships and the resultant varied cultural landscapes.
• Demonstrate an understanding of global cultural diversity.
