SCI 201: Science and Technology

Overview

This course provides a multidisciplinary exploration of the contemporary social implications of modern science and technology. It addresses the social consequences that scientific and technological developments have generated in recent years. Upon completion, students will demonstrate a critically formulated perspective about a wide range of problems and issues pertaining to scientific and technological development and application.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explore the nature and meaning of science and technology in society.
  • Identify the role and tasks of social groups in regulating scientific and technological development.
  • Recognize the different types of available energy resources, and their pros and cons.
  • Discuss technology application and its consequences to human health.
  • Address human efforts in exploring space.
  • Discuss the social impact of computer and information technology.
  • Debate bioethical issues associated with the development of biomedical technology.
  • Complete the final project that explores a major issue that relates to science and technology, and their impact.
